The VNA’s Community Programs Department helps people with everyday living. Offering essential programs for maintaining wellness and independence at little or no cost, the VNA provides a wide range of community-based, employer-based and at-home services that are readily available to community residents.

Services Offered

• Blood pressures clinics
A free screening program by registered nurses to detect elevated blood pressure and answer health questions you may have. They will also discuss your medications, diet, exercise and follow-up with the physician if needed.

• Immunization clinics including Flu, Pneumonia,Hepatitis A & B
Immunizations provided in a clinic setting for a variety of illnesses under the supervision and order of a physician. Charges to cover the cost of vaccine may apply.

• Ear assessment/irrigation clinics
A program designed to safely and effectively remove buildup of ear wax in a clinic setting by appointment. A nominal fee is charged.

• Cholesterol and blood glucose screening
A screening program by registered nurses to detect elevated cholesterol and blood sugar. The nurse will explain your cholesterol levels and, if needed, will provide you with information about how to lower your cholesterol. These screenings are by request only and available exclusively to businesses and organizations.

• TB Screening
PPD tests are available for adults. The test is administered and results are read by registered nurses.

• Foot care clinics
A program designed to provide preventative foot care for senior citizens. Included is a foot soak, toe nail trimming, smoothing of callouses, lotioning/massage, and a general foot assessment by specially trained registered nurses. Referrals are made to local podiatrists as needed. Appointments are necessary. A nominal fee is charged. Home visits are available for the homebound elderly needing this service.

• Wellness Walking Program
The VNA sponsors a year-round healthy walking program which is free of charge. A registered nurse will record your pulse and blood pressure before and after walking, and will discuss the benefits of exercise and proper nutrition, and will answer general health questions.

• Health Education
Health education programs on a variety of topics are available from VNA staff members. Registered nurses, physical or occupational therapists, registered dieticians, program managers, and administrators participate in a VNA speakers bureau to provide current information to service groups, organizations, businesses and the community at large.

• Workplace wellness programs and health fairs
Specially designed programs tailored to the needs of the workplace are available for a reasonable fee to area businesses. A variety of screenings are offered including first aid training, blood pressure, cholesterol, hearing testing, and others of interest to the specific business. Immunization programs are offered on site to prevent illness and to promote a healthy workforce with reduced absenteeism.

• School health program - Granby
The VNA contracts with the Granby Board of Education to provide school nursing services to the Granby Public Schools.

• Transportation to medical appointments
VNA volunteers drive current patients to local medical appointments if no other means of transportation is available. There is no charge for this service.

• Vision and hearing program
The VNA provides vision and hearing screening for children in preschools in the Farmington Valley. The screenings are held at the preschool and there is no charge for this service.

• Maternal/Child health program
This program is designed for new mothers and babies. An experienced maternal/child health nurse visits the home to examine the mother and baby. Parental teaching and support are provided in the areas of postpartum care, breast feeding and infant care.
